Get a wellbeing boost from just 20 minutes a day outside
Gareth Clubb, Director of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cymru spoke to us about their Prescription for Nature campaign.
Studies have shown that just 20 minutes a day out in nature can boost your wellbeing and connect you with the natural world.
Whether it's the calming act of gardening or the peace found in a quiet woodland walk, there are simple ways we can support our wellbeing, even in autumn and winter.
“It’s not always easy to get out for a long walk for example, but you’d be surprised how many small, accessible things we can do every day,” Gareth explains.

8 ways to get your daily dose of nature
Being active in nature. This could involve exercising outside instead of inside; switching up your walking route to take place in a green space; planting things outdoors - such as a community space or garden; or even a night of camping.
Having fun with family. Find your nearest forest trail; go for a nature-themed treasure hunt; or make a corridor for hedgehogs.
Accessible activities. The natural world shouldn’t be off-limits to anyone. Seek out fresh air when you can, and if you can’t get outside, try listening to soundscape audio recordings of nature; and have a go at cooking with the seasons by using seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Mindful moments. Gazing up at the night sky or writing in a nature journal can help you to relax. Try listening to the guided meditation on the WWF website.
Nature in your garden. Even in the autumn and winter you can plant winter friendly plants, or plan space for a wildflower meadow for next summer; build a bug hotel; or get a bird feeder to keep wildlife happy throughout the colder months.
Urban exploring. Take time to notice the natural world even in a town or city. Take photos of what nature you find.
At home with nature. Why not try growing some houseplants? As well as reducing stress and bringing a sense of calm, plants also improve air quality inside your home.
Creative crafts. Nature is an endless source of inspiration - especially autumn colours. Collect fallen leaves, pinecones, or seed heads to create a seasonal collage, or take photos of the things that catch your eye: frosty landscapes, moss-covered stones, bare branches silhouetted against the sky, or wildlife such as robins, and squirrels.
