Questions for the Climate Conversations Fund community events

Overarching / common thread questions

  • What do you think is needed to encourage and support more people to make greener choices – from the way in which we travel, heat our homes, to eating healthier diets?

  • How do we make sure that people, particularly people with lower incomes can afford the upfront costs that come with heat pumps, solar panels, electric vehicles and other low carbon technologies?

  • What can be done to help ensure people are more prepared for the impacts of climate change - like flooding and heatwaves – at the same time as making green choices?

  • What do you think would help protect and enhance wildlife, green spaces and encourage more tree planting in your local area?

  • How would you like to be more involved in Government decisions made about climate change? E.g. regular surveys, citizen assemblies, meetings in my local area.

  • Tackling climate change will require a skilled workforce and the right technology. Thinking about your local area, what are the skills, jobs and technologies needed?

  • What are the opportunities?

  • What are the barriers? How might they be removed?

Supporting questions

  • How should Wales decide which land is used for food, trees, housing, and renewable energy?

  • How can new tools or technologies (drones, satellites, AI etc.) help farmers and their local communities adapt to climate change? (e.g. monitor crop health, erosion, pollution levels)

  • What are the opportunities?

  • What are the barriers? How might they be removed?

Supporting questions

  • What would motivate you or your landlord to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and consider installing heat pumps and/or solar panels?

  • Would you know where to go to find advice and support on making your home more energy efficient? If not, what kind of support would be useful and who should provide it?

  • What new jobs or business opportunities do you think could be created by making housing in Wales greener, and how might we attract young people into these careers?

Transport

Main questions

  • How can we make the way in which we travel greener, while also ensuring the solutions to this are convenient, accessible, affordable and fair for everyone.

  • What are the opportunities?

  • What are the barriers? How might they be removed?

Supporting questions

  • What might motivate more people to walk, cycle and use public transport more often? How could the barriers be removed?

  • What would encourage more people to consider switching to an electric vehicle (EV), how could we overcome barriers?

  • Where should the Welsh Government focus its efforts to make transport in Wales greener? E.g. improving public transport, making walking and cycling easier, or supporting those who want to but can’t afford to switch to an EV?
