What is the Sustainable Agriculture Loan Scheme?
The Sustainable Agriculture Loan Scheme offers Welsh farming businesses access to affordable finance for projects that improve productivity and sustainability.
The scheme aims to help farmers make improvements that could reduce costs, increase efficiency and support more sustainable ways of working. It was developed in response to some of the challenges facing the farming sector, including rising energy bills, increasing costs and the need to plan for the future.
The pilot will run for one year and help assess demand for this type of support.
What funding is available?
Eligible farms can apply for loans ranging from £25,001 to £1 million. The loans have a fixed interest rate of 3% and can be repaid over a period of up to 15 years, helping businesses spread the cost of larger investments.
The scheme also includes a six-month repayment holiday, giving businesses time to put their plans into action before repayments begin.
What can the funding be used for?
Funding can be used for projects like:
Improving energy efficiency
Installing renewable energy systems
Better waste and nutrient management
Upgrading farm infrastructure and equipment
The aim is to help farms reduce costs, improve efficiency and invest in their long-term future.
Who can apply?
The scheme is open to eligible farming businesses in Wales. Applicants must be carrying out agricultural activities on land in Wales and meet minimum landholding or labour requirement.
